🚀 Getting Started
What exactly is Banksee and how does it work?
+
Banksee is an AI-powered financial analysis platform. You download a bank statement (PDF or CSV) from your bank's app or website, upload it to Banksee, and our AI automatically reads and categorises every transaction. You then get a full dashboard showing your spending, income, budget, debts, and savings trends — plus an AI assistant you can chat with about your finances.
Is Banksee free to use?
+
Yes! You can create an account and upload your first statement completely free — no credit card required. Our free tier gives you a meaningful taste of the platform. For unlimited uploads, advanced features, and full AI chat access, we offer an affordable premium subscription.
See our pricing here.
How do I get my bank statement?
+
Log into your bank's internet banking or mobile app, navigate to your account, and look for options like "Download Statement", "Export Statement", or "eStatement". Choose PDF or CSV format and download it to your device. Then upload that file directly to Banksee. No banking credentials are ever needed — just the file.
🏦 Banks & Compatibility
Which South African banks do you support?
+
Our AI is trained to understand transaction formats from all major South African banks including FNB, Standard Bank, ABSA, Nedbank, Capitec, Discovery Bank, and TymeBank. Both PDF and CSV formats are supported. If your bank isn't listed, try uploading anyway — our AI is generally quite good at parsing unfamiliar formats.
What if my statement format isn't recognised correctly?
+
Our AI can sometimes struggle with unusual or legacy bank formats. If you experience categorisation issues, please use the Transaction Review feature to manually verify the extracted data, or contact us at
support@banksee.co.za so we can improve support for your bank's format.
Can I upload statements from multiple months?
+
Yes! You can upload statements from multiple months and Banksee will combine them to show you longer-term trends. Premium users can upload up to 15 statements. Free users can upload 3 statements to get started.
🔒 Security & Privacy
Is it safe to upload my bank statements?
+
Absolutely. Your statements are encrypted using
AES-256 encryption the moment they are uploaded. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers uses TLS (HTTPS). We never sell your data and we don't share it with third parties for commercial purposes. For full details, see our
Security page and
Privacy Policy.
Do you ever connect directly to my bank account?
+
Never. Banksee is a file-upload only platform. We never request, store, or use your internet banking credentials. You simply download a statement file from your bank's existing app or website and upload that file to us. This means we have no access to your live bank account — ever.
Is Banksee compliant with POPIA?
+
Yes. We are committed to full compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). You have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of all your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact
privacy@banksee.co.za.
⚠️ Financial Advice & Accuracy
Is Banksee a financial advisor?
+
No. Banksee is a financial data analysis and insight tool. We are not a registered financial services provider under the FAIS Act or any other applicable legislation. Nothing on Banksee constitutes financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. All insights and AI-generated suggestions are for informational purposes only. Please consult a qualified, FSCA-registered financial advisor before making significant financial decisions.
How accurate is the AI categorisation?
+
Our AI is highly accurate for well-known merchants and transaction formats. That said, some transactions — particularly unusual merchant names or internal bank transfers — may be miscategorised. We recommend using the Transaction Review feature to verify and correct categories before relying on the dashboard for budgeting decisions.
Can the AI chat assistant give me investment advice?
+
The AI chat assistant can help you understand your spending patterns and answer questions about your data — but it cannot and should not be used as a substitute for professional financial advice. For investment decisions, please consult a qualified financial planner.
💳 Billing & Subscriptions
How do I cancel my subscription?
+
You can manage your subscription from the
Account Settings page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to premium features until then.
Yes. All payments are processed by PayFast, a PCI-DSS compliant South African payment gateway. Banksee never stores, sees, or handles your credit or debit card details.
Subscription payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by the South African Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact
support@banksee.co.za within 14 days of payment.
